60 Cascaix - Bilbao
24. May 2007
Next morning I was back in Cascais airport to find a workshop that could help me, so I - at the very least - could get an oil change done. I was lucky, because I was referred to a shop "Aviometa", that could do a full 100 hour service. A very friendly and helpful lot, who got stuck into the plane right away.
I went by train into Lisbon itself to stay the night in this wonderful city. Next afternoon I was back in the airport in Cascais, and late in the afternoon I was ready to depart for Bilboa.
I had decided, that I would stop there to see the Guggenheim Art Museum. It was nice weather most of the way - only when I got close to Bilbao did I get into solid IMC.
Doing the ILS approach to runway 30, for the first time I actually had to do a go around. I did just not get descended soon enough and came in hot and high. I could not get to the glide scope without over speeding.
But after a second try I came in for landing on runway 30 and taxied to the old terminal along runway 28 for parking. A car was there to give me a ride to the new terminal, and in no time I was on my way to town in a bus.
It is amazing how different airports can be. Here in Bilbao I was given a welcome and helped through the airport compared to Lisbon, where I was seen as a source of income - and not being welcome at all!
