51 Cayman Island - Jamaica
7. May 2007
Sunday I went for a drive on the island. And I must say, that apart for the beautiful “Seven mile beach” I did not see much of interest. Suburbia seems to be sprawling and I did not see any sign of agriculture or other food producing activity.
So I spend the afternoon snorkeling and walking a few miles along the Seven Mile Beach.
Monday I was of to the airport around noon, and after waiting about half an hour for a custom official to turn up, I was ready for departure on an IFR flight plan.
After a few minutes in the air, I got a direct routing to “ELSER”, a fix for the ILS to runway 12 in the Norman Manley international airport in Kingson, Jamaica. As I came in over the eastern coast I passed Montego Bay, the main tourist area.
I had been tempted to go there, as there is an airport close to the beach hotels – but I had decided to continue to Kingston. Then the next leg to Aruba would be a little shorter.
Getting into Jamaica was somewhat involved, as I had to park by a gate, go through customs and emigration – and then get back to the plane to taxi it to another spot for parking.
As a curiosum, I had to pay 100 dollars for a visa – only because there was a cricket world cup. But it was almost a month ago?
