88 Stellenbosch - Johannesburg
27 March 2010
As I am writing this, it is now the 12th of March 2011. I am sitting in my little bungalow at the Sossusslei Lodge in the Namib dessert in Namibia.
To be honest then I did not put my plane in a hangar in Stellenbosch before I returned home Ð I flew it from the airfield in Stellenbosch directly to Krugersdorp on the outskirts of Johannesburg. I had made arrangements earlier to store the plane there with Ivo Rinkel, a P & A mechanic who could dom the annual on the plane as well!
I didn«t think it was wise to publish the whereabouts of the plane on the Internet!
It was a very marginal VFR day leaving Stellenbosch, but once I got over the mountains it was nice weather for my VFR flight to Johannesburg. I was going to stop in Kimberly Ð but with a strong tailwind, I decided to go all the way nonstop.
Krugersdorp is an airfield that is located on the top of a hill, so it is almost like landing on an aircraft carrier. The airfield is run by Krugersdorp aero club. Mr. Rinkel was waiting for me, and the plane got into the hangar, and I got a lift to town.
A couple of days later I boarded my flight home on an airbus 387.
